Information Needed - Section 8

In order to have WorkWORLD calculate eligibility and rental payment amounts you must have the following information about your rental unit and your family's financial situation:

Rental Unit Information

·      The specific Section 8 program that you are (or will be) in. (See: Section 8 Housing Overview for information about the program options.)

·      If the unit is (or is to be) rented through the Tenant-Based Voucher program, you must find out the Rent-to-Owner amount, the Utility Allowance amount, the number of bedrooms in the unit, the Payment Standard for the unit and for your family size, and the Minimum Rent for the unit.

·      If the unit is (or is to be) in any other Section 8 program, you must find out the Contract Rent amount, the Utility Allowance amount, the number of bedrooms in the unit, and the Minimum Rent for the unit.

·      If your family has Income Producing Assets worth more than $5,000, then you must find out the Passbook Savings Rate used by your Public Housing Agency (PHA) to calculate the minimum income from those assets. (If the actual income you receive from those assets is less than the calculated minimum, your PHA uses the calculated amount to determine your gross non-excluded income.)

Family Financial Information

The necessary financial information includes:

·      Your family's expected annual Unearned Income (excluding income from assets) and the portion of that income, if any, that is a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefit.

·      Your family's expected annual Earned Income.

·      Your family's expected annual Income from Assets. (See the last bullet under "Rental Unit Information," above, if you have income producing assets worth more than $5,000.)

·      Your family's expected annual child care, attendant care, medical care, and work expense costs.

·      If you receive welfare benefits, see Welfare Assistance and Section 8
