An individual under the age of 65 may qualify for EAEDC if he or she has a disability or combination of disabilities expected to last 60 days or more. The disability(ies) must substantially reduce or eliminate the applicant's or recipient's ability to support himself or herself.
Disability(ies) must be medically verified. Several different standards may be used to meet medical verification requirements:
· The individual’s condition(s) meets any of the definitions of medical conditions (specified in 106 CMR 320.210, see below), or
· The individual’s condition(s) is included in the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Listing of Impairments (specified in 20 CFR, Part 404, Subpart P, Appendix 1); or
· The individual’s condition(s) substantially reduces or eliminates the ability to maintain self-support when specific vocational factors are evaluated; or
· The individual has written notification from SSA or an administrative law judge that he or she is considered disabled for purposes of SSI or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and/or is eligible for SSI or SSDI
An EAEDC applicant or recipient must apply for SSI and cooperate in the SSI application and/or appeal process when required and must periodically submit verifications when required by the Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA).
Specific standards for disabling medically verifiable conditions (both physical and mental) may be found at 106 CMR 320.210, available in PDF format at:
