Disability Insurance is often called Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Title II benefits. It is also sometimes referred to by the more inclusive name, Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (RSDI) benefits. The SSDI benefit amount is based on payments previously made into the system by a worker who has become disabled. (The benefit amount is based, that is, on the worker's earnings record.)
WorkWORLD also includes the Disability Insurance that an individual can get as a Disabled Adult Child of someone who has paid into the system.
See the topic Disability Insurance - SSDI (Title II) - Eligibility for the requirements you must satisfy to become a beneficiary of Social Security Disability Insurance.
NOTE: If you are age 62-65, receive SSI, and believe that you receive a Social Security check that is disability based, you should verify that you are, in fact, receiving SSDI benefits. Some people within this age group presume that since their SSI check is disability based, the other Social Security check is disability based SSDI as well. Actually, you may be receiving retirement benefits (RIB) rather than disability benefits (SSDI). If you are in this age group, make sure that your Social Security check is really for SSDI. You may need to contact your SSA claims representative in order to make sure.
If you are receiving Social Security retirement benefits rather than disability benefits, this version of WorkWORLD will not give you relevant information or accurate results.
The Social Security Administration operates an online Benefits Eligibility Screening Tool (BEST) that can help you determine if you are eligible for Medicare, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Supplemental Security Insurance (SSI), and other programs.
