EAEDC - Categorical Eligibility for Care of the Disabled - Massachusetts

Three conditions must be in place for an applicant or recipient to be categorically eligible for EAEDC because he or she is serving as a caretaker for a person with a disability. The person in need of care must:

·      Reside in the home

·      Need constant care

·      Be required to be institutionalized if constant home care was not provided

The applicant or recipient must provide verification of the disabled person's disability, the need for constant care, and the risk of institutionalization without such constant care. This must be verified at application, re-determination, or time of any change by a written statement from the disabled person's physician on the physician's letterhead that verifies the disability, the need for constant care and that the disabled person would be at risk of institutionalization without such care.

The income and assets of the disabled person are considered in the financial determination of eligibility. If the income and/or assets of the disabled person exceed the specified limits, the applicant or recipient of EAEDC is ineligible for emergency assistance.

The EAEDC applicant or recipient must meet all other categorical requirements and financial requirements of the EAEDC program.
