A number of internal links and Internet website pages referenced as links in the WorkWORLD Help/Information System topics are provided in PDF format. In order to open PDF files, you must have Adobe Acrobat (either the full version or the free reader) installed as a helper application in your Internet browser. For best results, make sure you have version 7 or later installed on your computer.
Note that many files on the Social Security Administration's website and many other Federal and State websites are also in PDF format.
Files in PDF format that require Acrobat in order to open are frequently identified by one of the following symbols, in addition to always using a PDF file extension:
You probably already have Acrobat installed on your computer. See the External Browser topic to test your computer's compatibility.
NOTE: When printing one of the Help/Information system topics that displays a PDF file, be sure to use the Acrobat Print icon rather than the Help window Print command.
If you do not have Acrobat version 7 or later installed, you can download and install the latest version of the reader free of charge by clicking either the icon or link below:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html
Once you have connected to the Adobe website, you should close this and other applications on your computer (except your browser, of course) before starting the download. Follow the simple on-screen instructions to complete the process.
Help and information about using the Acrobat Reader is built into the Reader program. However, you cannot access the Reader's help features while it is being used as a helper application in a browser window or in the WorkWORLD Help window.
To view the Reader help files, you must start the Reader as a stand-alone application. That is, click the Windows Start button, select Programs, and then click on the Acrobat Reader item in the Programs list.
Once the Reader window appears on your monitor, click the Help item from the menu bar, and then click Reader Help from the drop-down menu. The Reader help contains complete information about all operational details.
If you have trouble downloading, installing, or configuring the Reader program, Adobe has additional support available at its website. The Acrobat Reader support page is at:
http://www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html
Information about testing Acrobat on your computer may be found in the External Browser topic.
