Food Stamps - Financial Eligibility Overview - Massachusetts

A food stamp household must meet both income and asset criteria to participate in the Food Stamp Program.

Earned and unearned income available to the household is counted to determine the household’s eligibility and benefit level for food stamps. Some types of income are excluded and some income is deductible in this determination.

All of the household’s assets are also considered when determining eligibility, unless specifically exempted. Certain limits are set on the availability of assets to the household.
