The Georgia Benefit Information System (GABIS) provides information about benefits available in Georgia. It covers disability, employment, health, welfare and other benefits, attempting to describe as simply as possible the various eligibility rules and the rules for calculating benefit amounts. It is integrated into the WorkWORLD Help/Info System so as to provide you with a wide range of Federal and State information.
If you are using this Help/Information System on the Internet, click the "Show Navigation" link at the upper left corner of this screen to reveal the Contents, Index, and Search features. Also see Using the Help/Information System On The Web for additional features and operational information.
Much of the information is drawn from online sources that are available on the Internet. Where applicable, GABIS provides you with links to those sources so that you can easily find more detailed information and additional links to related information.
Note that Georgia provides much of the available information in PDF format. You must have the Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in order to see that information. Instructions may be found in the previous link to download the software if you don't already have it installed on your machine. (The Reader is available free of charge.)
Cobb Community Services Board, the Cobb County Micro-Enterprise Project and "CobbWorks!", the local Workforce Investment Board, received a Department of Labor grant to remove barriers that many Cobb County residents with disabilities encounter as they try to enter or re-enter the workforce, attain new skills, start a business or go directly into the career of their choice. Georgia Partners are working to build the capacity of the local One-Stop system and to demonstrate an innovative, person-driven information system support model replicable for the national Workforce Investment system.
The U.S. DOL Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) grant project is co-directed by Doug Crandell, Supported Employment Director at the Cobb County Community Services Board, and John Helton, Executive Director of CobbWorks!, Inc.
These partners in the Customized Employment Project provided the financial and research support to initiate customizing the WorkWORLD benefits planning software to include a Georgia Benefits Information System (GABIS), while seeking State partners to expand the Decision Support project. Organizations or Agencies interested in collaborating to expand and/or maximize the value of the Georgia WorkWORLD Decision Support System should contact the Employment Support Institute at WorkWORLD@vcu.edu.
WorkWORLD with GABIS was developed to increase public access to public benefits planning information available to consumers to assist them in efforts in understanding the impact work will have on their public benefits.
We have attempted to simplify and explain the various policies; in doing so we may have left out rarely needed information that is nonetheless important in your particular situation.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before acting on any information contained in GABIS or other parts of WorkWORLD, you should check with a representative of the applicable agency to ensure that your actions will have the results you intend.
