Georgia veterans of U.S. military service may be eligible for a variety of state benefits including exemptions from certain Georgia state taxes and fees, and care in the Veterans Home or Nursing Home. These are in addition to the Federal veterans benefits administered by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The Georgia Department of Veterans Service administers the State benefits.
· Homestead Tax
· Sales Tax and Ad Valorem on Vehicles
· State Income Tax for designated periods
· Occupational taxes, administration fees, and regulatory fees imposed by local governments for peddling, conducting a business, or practicing a profession or semi-profession
· Hunting and Fishing Licenses
· Veterans Drivers' Licenses
· Honorary Driver's Licenses for spouses of Veterans who can not drive or who have deceased
· Medal of Honor Tags, Handicapped Vehicle Tags, Purple Heart Tags, or Pearl Harbor Tags
· ID Cards for Veterans who do not have motor vehicle drivers licenses
· Reduced fees for state parks, historical sites, and recreational areas
Eligibility for the various benefits differs in accordance with the severity of the disability and the dates of service. (Some benefits are available only to those who served during times of military conflict.)
