In order to be resource-eligible for General Assistance (GA), your Family Budget Group can not have resources worth over the $1,000 resource limit.
In general, the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Resource Eligibility rules and TANF Resource Exclusions apply. The one exception is that the automobile exclusion is less for GA.
Exclude one automobile, the equity value of which does not exceed $1,500.00. The equity value is the difference between the automobile’s fair market value and the amount still owed on it. The equity value in excess of $1,500.00 is counted towards the $1,000.00 resource limitation. The entire equity value of any other automobiles owned by the individuals in the Family Budget Group is counted as a resource.
The increased value of a motor vehicle specially equipped with devices for the handicapped is not counted. Farm vehicles that are used to produce income are excluded from consideration as a resource.
ALERT: Transfer of Resources: Any individual who transfers a resource valued at more than $500 without being paid its fair market value is ineligible for TANF or GA for two (2) years from the date of the transfer.
