At the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS), the Transitional Employment Program (TEP) means a series of temporary job placements in competitive work in integrated work settings with on-site or off-site ongoing support services for individuals with the most significant disabilities due to mental illness. Ongoing support services must include continuing sequential job placements until job permanency is achieved.
DRS can only sponsor a transitional employment program that is expected to be the last TEP prior to permanent placement. The DRS TEP may lead to either competitive employment or supported employment. The DRS counselor provides employment-oriented services and monitors the individual's progress in achieving an employment outcome.
A DRS-authorized TEP often follows one or more clubhouse-authorized transitional employment services of a more developmental nature. The clubhouse may also provide therapeutic, residential, social, recreational services.
The individual must work the maximum number of work hours per week (preferably at least 15 hours) based on the individual's ability and limitations.
TEP is subject to consumer financial participation policy.
