You are eligible for the basic DRS Vocational Rehabilitation Program if:
· You are legally eligible to work in the United States; and
· You have a physical, mental, or emotional disability; and
· This disability is keeping you from working; and
· You want to work and you think DRS services can help you, and
· You are in Virginia (living, working, or moving here), and
· DRS certifies that there is a good chance that DRS vocational rehabilitation services will result in your employment.
Evaluation of your employment potential and the counseling and referral services needed to help you reach that potential are provided free of charge.
You may, however, be required to help pay for other services depending on your ability to pay. For more information, see: DRS Financial Participation.
NOTE: Some programs administered by DRS may have specific age or disability eligibility criteria. Such criteria are listed in the topics for those programs.
If DRS funding is insufficient to provide services to all who apply and are eligible, then DRS may have to apply an Order of Selection. DRS entered into an order of selection effective July 1, 2004, and it will remain in effect until such time that there are sufficient resources to serve all eligible individuals.
NOTE: The 2006-2007 State Plan for Vocational Rehabilitation and Supported Employment (effective October 2, 2006 to September 30, 2007) statement about Order of Selection is available at:
http://www.vadrs.org/downloads/412c2AOrderOfSelection.doc.
DRS will not fund many services if funding for comparable services is available through other government agencies, health insurance, or employer benefits. See Comparable Benefits Policy for more information and exceptions to the policy.
