Personal Assistance Services (PAS) provided through the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS), sometimes called attendant care, is a range of non-medical services provided by one or more persons, designed to assist a consumer with a significant physical disability with daily living activities. These consumer-directed services include transferring, bathing, eating, dressing or other physical activities.
DRS manages three PAS programs:
· Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) PAS;
· State-funded PAS; and
· PAS for Individuals with Brain Injury.
Each program has general and program specific eligibility criteria. An assessment is required for participation in any of these programs and comparable benefits, such as Medicaid Waiver PAS programs, must be examined before PAS services are provided by DRS.
