Text Results

Picture of man using computer. When you first start WorkWORLD and go to the main screen (either by creating a new file or opening a previously saved file), the bottom half of the main screen is set to display "Text Results (SSI/DI)".

At other times, to see the Text Results using your keyboard, first select the Output view by selecting View, Outputs (hold down the "Alt" key and press "V" and then "O"). Then select the Text Results by holding down the "Alt" key and pressing "T"

Or, using your mouse, click on the 100% Output icon located on your toolbar near the top of your screen, and then click on the "Text Results" tab located in the lower-left corner of the main screen.

Note that the Text Results tab could include either "(SSI/DI)", or "(Housing)" or "(Food Stamps)". Which tab you see depends on whether you are looking at SSI/DI results, or Housing results, or Food Stamps results. (Go to Understanding WorkWORLD Results for instruction on moving among the different program results.)

The viewing size of the Results screen can be made larger or smaller by placing your mouse just above the output portion of the screen until it turns into a double arrow.

Screenshot of double arrow pointer that appears at boundary of window sections when mouse pointer hovers over that position. Drag the top of the Results screen up or down to adjust the viewing size.

If you are creating a new file, then the Text Results half of the main screen will have only one note, "Incomplete Results", until you have entered answers to all of the questions needed to complete a situation. (Until you have answered all the necessary questions, there will also be a QUESTIONS PENDING notice on the bottom-right of your screen in the WorkWORLD status bar.) When you complete all of the questions, WorkWORLD will take a few seconds to calculate and then display Text Results related to that situation.

If you make changes to any of your answers in a situation, WorkWORLD will recalculate your outputs and again display them on the lower portion of your screen. Changing one answer may cause additional questions to be asked. WorkWORLD will show the changed outputs only after all questions have been answered to make the change.

Text Results are written "Alerts", "Notes" and "Recommendations" that give you information about your situation and suggest changes or choices that may produce better results for you.

After you have entered answers for one or more "What-IF?" situations, the results for the different situations appear side by side for easy review and comparison. At this point, the WorkWORLD status bar will show the following information at the bottom right of your screen:

Screenshot of selected portion of Windows taskbar and WorkWORLD status bar, from lower right area of screen. The status bar indicates that the situation is complete, and that input is active.

Notice that it says "Input is active". You actually see two different areas of the WorkWORLD window on your screen, the Input and the Output area. As their names imply, the Input area is the top part of the screen where you enter answers to questions, and the Output area is the lower portion of the screen where WorkWORLD shows you Text, Numerical, and Graph results. While you can click on buttons in either area (or use the keyboard to accomplish the same thing) at any given time only one of the areas is active, either Input or Output. The status bar shows you which area will respond to keyboard activity.

If you want more information about any of the results, you can click on the "More Information" link below each Text Result. It always appears as blue underlined text with instructions to click on it for more information about the text result. An example is shown below:

Screenshot of typical Alert in Text Results, showing Alert title (Alert - Keeping Medicaid) in red text at top, followed by text body with explanation of alert (warning you that by losing eligibility for SSI by significantly increasing your monthly income, you lose your automatic Medicaid eligibility), and blue link to More Information at bottom of alert.

This will automatically switch the active area to Output. To reach and activate these "More Information" links from the keyboard:

Hold down the "Alt" key and press "T" to take your cursor to the first entry in the first column of the Text Results:

Depiction of keyboard key Alt. + Depiction of keyboard key letter T.

In some circumstances you may have to do this twice to move your cursor there.

After using either the mouse or the keyboard to get to the output, the status bar will indicate that "Output is active":

Use the "Tab" key to move your cursor to the situation column containing the text result you want more information about:

Then use your arrow keys to move your cursor to the "More Information" link that you want to activate:

Depiction of keyboard key arrow down. Depiction of keyboard key arrow up. Depiction of keyboard key arrow right. Depiction of keyboard key arrow left.

Your cursor blinks at its current location.

When your cursor is located anywhere in the "More Information" link, press "Enter" to bring up the help screen:

 Depiction of keyboard key Enter.

When you want to close the Help window and go back to the main screen, press the "Esc" key:

 Depiction of keyboard key Escape.

To move your cursor back to the top half of the screen (the Input section) hold down the "Alt" key and press "I" (as shown on the status bar):

Depiction of keyboard key Alt. + Depiction of keyboard key letter I.

This will allow the Input area to accept keyboard commands. The status bar will once again show that "Input is active":
