Individuals meeting the following requirements are entitled to special treatment including:
· Waiver of the in-office interview (see 106 CMR 361.510);
· Waiver of the eligibility requirement to have gross income less than gross income standard (see 106 CMR 364.370);
· Excess medical deduction (see 106 CMR 364.400(C));
· Uncapped shelter deduction (see 106 CMR 364.400(E)); and
· The 165% Income Standard for Elderly and Disabled Individuals (see 106 CMR 361.200).
An elderly individual is at least 60 years of age by the last day of the month of application. A disabled individual is an individual who meets one of the following requirements:
· Receives or is certified to receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits
· Receives disability or blindness payments under Title I (Old Age Assistance)
· Receives payments under Title II (Retirement, Survivor and Disability Insurance [RSDI])
· Receives payments under Title X (Aid to the Blind)
· Receives payments under Title XIV (Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled) or Title XVI of the Social Security Act
· Receives disability-related medical assistance under Title XIX of the Social Security Act.
· Receives disability retirement benefits from a governmental agency because of a disability considered permanent
· Is a veteran with a service-connected or non-service-connected disability or is a surviving spouse of a veteran in need of regular aid
