Food Stamps - Gross Household Income - Massachusetts

Gross household income is income of all household members, minus income exclusions. This amount is compared to the Maximum Gross Monthly Income Standard for the appropriate household size to determine eligibility for food stamps.

If the countable gross household income is greater than the standard, the household is ineligible for food stamps. If the countable gross household income is equal to or less than the standard, the household's eligibility is determined using the Maximum Allowable Monthly Net Income Standard.

Households that contain at least one member who either has a disability or is elderly do not have to meet the gross income standard. For these households that are not categorically eligible, net income is the sole basis of income eligibility.
