The Career Learning Center of the Black Hills, an affiliate of the Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC), is one of nine Career Learning Centers in South Dakota. BHSSC is also a certified Career Center in the South Dakota Career Center system.
NOTE: The Career Center system is designed to supply employers and job seekers with easy-to-use and easy-to-find employment and training services. Through state and local partnerships, Career Centers provide coordinated job matching services and accessible training opportunities.
The center is free to anyone meeting Workforce Investment Act (WIA) income eligibility guidelines.
As a Career Learning Center, BHSSC offers a variety of education, training, and employment programs:
· Community Employment Options (CEO): CEO services include vocational evaluation and exploration, job placement, job coaching, and employment follow along. Often services provided by CEO can be authorized and paid for through the South Dakota Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS).
Individuals with work related injuries may receive vocational evaluation services and expert testimony to assist with final disposition of Worker's Compensation claims. All services for Worker's Compensation referrals are provided on a fee for service basis.
· Freedom the Work Project: The Freedom to Work Project is funded as a Medicaid Infrastructure Grant (MIG).
· General Education Development (GED): Orientation, test preparation, and testing for the GED certificate is available.
· Pre-Employment Opportunities Workshop (PEO): PEO focuses on job search and retention skills.
· Includes English Literacy and Civics Education, Even Start Family Literacy program, and Adult Education and Family Literacy (AEL) and English as a Second Language (ESL).
· Includes Birth to 3 Connections, Parents as Teachers, Common Sense Parenting, and the Parent Resource Network.
· Includes Keyboarding & Introduction to Computers, Computer Software Applications, and the Community Technology.
