There are many forms of Section 8 Project-Based Assistance. From the perspective of the person or family receiving Section 8 assistance, however, there is generally little difference among the different programs. Rental payments, for example, are determined in the same way for all of the Project-Based programs. (See: Tenant Rent.)
NOTE: Some Project-Based programs are administered by the owners of the rental units not by a Public Housing Agency (PHA). If you live in such a unit, then you should substitute "owner" for every reference to "PHA" in the WorkWORLD Information System.
WorkWORLD asks specifically about some kinds of Project-Based Assistance because they differ in their financial eligibility requirements.
Moderate Rehabilitation and Multifamily Subsidized Housing Projects: You must have Gross Non-Excluded Income that is less than the "Very Low" income limit to be financially eligible for units in Moderate Rehabilitation Projects, and Multifamily Subsidized Housing Projects.
Project-Based Voucher & Certificate Programs: You can, in certain circumstances, be financially eligible for units in Project-Based Voucher & Certificate programs if you have "Low" and even "Moderate" income levels. (For more information, see Eligibility for Project-Based Voucher & Certificate.)
Other Project-Based Assistance: For all other Project-Based Assistance programs, you are financially eligible if your Gross Non-Excluded Income is below the "Low" income limit. (Your Gross Non-Excluded Income is your total income after subtracting income exclusions.)
If you are considering applying for Section 8 assistance, enter the information about the unit, your family composition, and your income in WorkWORLD. A Text Result will tell you whether or not you are eligible.
NOTE: If you want to know your income level in comparison with the "Very Low," "Low," and "Moderate" income limits for your location and family size, answer "YES" to the question about that at the end of the housing questions in WorkWORLD. You will get a Text Result "Note" telling you your level and the three limits for your location and family size.
