Note - SNAP (Food Stamp) Allotment Amount Discrepancy

The monthly amount you reported as your current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program) allotment (benefit) differs slightly from the amount WorkWORLD calculates you should be receiving, based on the information you supplied. Please double-check the amount you entered as your current benefit.

NOTE: Until you find the reason for this small difference, you may proceed but should interpret WorkWORLD SNAP (Food Stamp) calculations as estimates.

NOTE HOWEVER: If you are entering a hypothetical situation and you do not know the actual amount of your allotment, reopen the question, "What is the actual amount of your monthly SNAP (Food Stamp) benefits?" and enter the amount specified in the Text Result.

The difference could be the result of a number of factors including:

·        Errors made when you input data into WorkWORLD.

·        Changes in earned income, such as wages and salaries.

·        Changes in unearned income, such as SSI, SSDI, TANF, or other benefits.

·        Changes in household composition such as the addition or loss of a household member.

·        Income of any person added to or removed from the food stamp household.

·        Changes in residence and resulting shelter cost changes.

·        Changes in shelter, dependent care, child support, or medical expenses.

·        The acquisition of any countable resource, such as property or a vehicle.

·        Changes in school status of any household member.

The first thing to do is review all the inputs you entered into WorkWORLD. Be certain that the numbers WorkWORLD is using are correct.

Second, if you used any estimates when entering amounts you were unsure of, you should find actual amounts and verify or correct the estimates you used.

Next, consider the list of factors above. Changes in any of them since your last SNAP (Food Stamps) certification may cause WorkWORLD to calculate benefits that differ from those you actually receive. Similarly, changes you recently reported to your SNAP (Food Stamp) office may not have taken effect yet, since benefits are usually based on your circumstances two months prior to allotment issuance.

Finally, you may wish to contact your local SNAP (Food Stamp) office to determine what values they are currently using in the calculation of your benefits. It is possible they are using erroneous or outdated information. Supplying current information is to your advantage, as you agreed to do when initially applying for SNAP (Food Stamps). Remember, if they discover an error, most overpayments to you will be recovered at a later date. Also, it is possible that incorrect information may be causing you to receive a lower allotment than you are entitled to.

If, after taking the above actions, you find that you are receiving the correct amount, but that WorkWORLD still calculates the amount incorrectly, then you may have found a bug in the software. Please help us fix the bug by saving the file and contacting us at our web site, http://www.WorkWORLD.org.
