The Oklahoma Department of Human Services (See: http://www.okdhs.org/programsandservices/liheap/) in cooperation with the Federal government, provides seasonal energy assistance to low-income households.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is intended to provide assistance to eligible households to meet costs of home energy that are excessive in relation to household income. Households typically affected by such costs are the elderly, people with disabilities, low-income families, children, migrants, and those who are isolated from service locations by geographical or language barriers.
The program assists with winter heating bills and provides help for some families who have received utility cut-off notices. DHS also contracts, through the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, with local Oklahoma Association of Community Action Agencies (See: http://www.okacaa.org/housing/contacts.html) to provide weatherization services for eligible families.
