Households applying for food stamps may exercise one of three possible Standard Utility Allowances (SUA) as allowable deductions from household income.
If an assistance unit lives with another assistance unit or assistance units, each assistance unit which contributes to utility costs is entitled to the full applicable SUA.
If your actual utility expenses are greater than the allowances, you must document the expenses with invoices or receipts. You can choose either to use an SUA or actual expense at certification and/or re-certification. You can not switch in-between those events.
The following rates have been in effect since 10/1/05 and continue in effect at least through 10/1/06:
Heating SUA |
$474 |
Non-Heating SUA |
287 |
Telephone SUA |
33 |
The numbers are effective at least through 10/1/06. If you are using this after 10/1/06, you should check for revised numbers available in PDF format at:
