Some states have expanded the definition of categorical eligibility in their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program) to include households that do not meet the requirement that all household members receive SSI and/or TANF. These states have identified programs so that if at least one household member participates in them, or the household meets other conditions, then the household is considered to be categorically eligible.
