Expanded Categorical Eligibility (Wisconsin) - SNAP (Food Stamps)

Wisconsin has expanded the definition of Categorical Eligibility in its Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program) by including participation in the programs or conditions listed below. If any member of a SNAP (Food Stamp) household that lives in the State receives benefits or services from any program shown, then the Household is considered Categorically Eligible for SNAP benefits.

·        W-2 Payment Positions (all)

·        W-2 Case Management (all)

·        W-2 Caretaker of an Infant

·        W-2 Trial Job

·        Kinship Care

·        Caretaker Supplement (CTS)

·        Employment Skills Advance Program (ESAP). The program ended 09/30/01. If a member of the household received ESAP during the current certification period, categorical eligibility continues until the next review.

·        Child Care (CC) Assistance eligibility (all). One need not necessarily have a CC authorization to be considered receiving this TANF-funded assistance. Rather, being found eligible for CC is enough to confer categorical eligibility for the household. If a CC household is open in CARES and contains a SNAP household member, then the SNAP household is categorically eligible.

·        Job Access Loan (JAL). JAL's should be considered categorically eligible if the loan was received in the current certification period.

·        Children First

·        Welfare to Work

·        Tribal TANF Payments

·        Workforce Attachment and Advancement (WAA)

NOTE: Programs and conditions making a household categorically eligible for SNAP (Food Stamps) in your State may be in effect for short periods and/or change at times other than at the Federal fiscal year boundaries. You can get the latest information from your local SNAP agency or from the SNAP (Food Stamp) State Information Hotline for your state. If you find something that should be updated on the list above, please notify us by email at WorkWORLD@vcu.edu so that we may include it in the next update.
