Supplemental Security Income (SSI) policy is used when determining countable income. See Countable Income for Dependent Person Allowance.
When a client is an SSI recipient, it is not necessary for State personnel to verify the client’s income. State personnel rely on the countable income as determined by the Social Security Administration.
In order to be eligible for a dependent person allowance:
· The dependent must have countable monthly income of less than the difference between the single person SSI standard and the couple standard
· The total countable monthly income of the client, the spouse, and the dependent relative must be less than the Assistance Standard:
For the amounts Assistance Standards for single individual, couple, and various family groups, Click on Desk Aid Supp. The Desk Aid for Supplemental Assistance contains the basic payment standards (payment amounts) for SSI and the various State Supplementary Assistance programs.
NOTE: If you are connected to the Internet you can click on Desk Aid for Supplemental Assistance to see the on-line Desk Aid.
NOTE: You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in order to view the on-line version. If you do not have the Reader installed, you can download it free from: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.
If SSI is deeming income from the spouse, the spouse is not eligible as a dependent person because the spouse’s income exceeds the difference between the single person SSI standard and the couple standard. Also, if SSI is deeming income from a parent to an eligible child, the parent is not eligible.
