SSI - Overview - Iowa

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) is a Federal benefit program available to individuals who have limited income and resources and who have a disability that prevents them from engaging in Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA).

SSI has a number of work incentives available to SSI recipients. See SSI Work Incentives for information about the:

·           Student Earned Income Exclusion (SEIE),

·           Impairment-Related Work Expenses (IRWE),

·           Blind Work Expenses (BWE),

·           Cash Benefits when earning over SGA [1619(a)], Medicaid when no cash benefits [1619(b)], and

·           Plans for Achieving Self Support (PASS).
