The amount of resources you entered for this situation exceeds the maximum resource limits permitted for continued SSI eligibility. When you exceed the resource limits, you lose your SSI benefits.
NOTE: Your total resources include those resources that may be deemed to you from others. If you are under age 18, you may be subject to parental deeming. If you are married, spousal deeming may apply.
NOTE for SSDI Beneficiaries: In most circumstances, when you lose your SSI eligibility, you also lose your eligibility for Medicaid. If you also receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits and Medicare, then Medicaid has been paying your Medicare Part B premium instead of the premium being deducted from your SSDI check.
WorkWORLD does not, however, automatically deduct the premium from your SSDI check when you lose SSI. The reason: some States have programs (such as Medicaid Buy-Ins) that allow you to keep your Medicaid when you lose your SSI because of resources or income. You should check to see if your State has such a program. If not, then you should go back to the "Benefits Received" section and answer "YES" to the question: "Is Your Medicare Part B Premium Deducted from your SSDI check?"
Under some circumstances you still may be able to receive a monthly cash payment, but you will have to repay it later (see Conditional Benefits below). Refer to the text result and double-check the amount you entered, and note your allowable limit.
You should make sure that what you have reported as resources are, in fact, countable resources as defined by SSA. Not everything a person has is a resource and not all resources count. See the topic "SSI Resources - Definition" for help in determining what your resources are. Remember that not all assets are considered resources, and some resources are excluded.
NOTE: If you find that your resources have been incorrectly reported to SSA, you should contact your SSA Claims Representative immediately to report the discrepancy.
If your resources are reported correctly, you should pay particular attention in coming months to their value. If, on the first moment of any month, your resources are less than the limit, you can receive SSI benefits for that month if you are still otherwise eligible.
If your countable resources exceed the resource limits because you have nonliquid resources you cannot convert to cash for support and maintenance immediately, and your countable liquid resources fall below certain limits, you may be eligible to receive conditional payments. You will have to agree in writing to sell the excess nonliquid resources and repay the conditional payments. This will allow you to receive a monthly check during the period you would otherwise be ineligible for SSI benefits. See the topic "SSI Resources - Conditional Payments" for more information.
IMPORTANT: If you have lost your SSI eligibility due to excess nonliquid resources and can meet the requirements discussed above, you can apply for conditional payments in order to continue receiving a monthly check. Contact your SSA Claims Representative for further information.
Note that if you use some of your resources to help prepare for and obtain a job, or start a business–and therefore become more self-supporting–and include those resources in an approved Plan for Achieving Self-Sufficiency (PASS), those resources will be excluded from your countable resources. For example, if you own more than one vehicle and can show how using the second vehicle could help you meet the goals of your PASS you could exclude that particular resource when determining eligibility for SSI. This may permit you to regain your SSI eligibility while you prepare for a new or better occupational goal.
