TAFDC - Rent Allowance - Massachusetts

Applicants and recipients of TAFDC are eligible for a Rent/Mortgage Allowance of $40 per month, provided the applicant or recipient does not reside in public housing or state or federally subsidized housing; and the applicant or recipient has rent, mortgage, or room and/or board expenses.

Public housing is housing owned and operated by a housing authority in which the rent is based on a percentage of at least one of the occupants' income.

Subsidized housing is housing occupied under a:

·      Section 8 lease or occupancy agreement

·      Massachusetts Rental Voucher Program lease or occupancy agreement

·      Teen Structured Living Program (see 106 CMR 203.600 and 203.630 for details)

·      Other state or federally funded program in which the rent of at least one of the occupants is based in whole or in part on a percentage of his or her income
