SSI State Supplement - North Carolina

The flag was adopted in 1885.North Carolina provides State Supplements to Federal SSI benefit payments for residents in one of the living arrangements specified in the table below.

The program providing assistance to aged and disabled persons is also known as "State/County Special Assistance for Adults".

Unless otherwise stated, payment levels apply equally to people who are aged, people with blindness, and people with disabilities. Benefit amounts are usually adjusted annually, and become effective January 1st. The table shows monthly payment levels for calendar year 2010.

If you are using this version of WorkWORLD after January 1, 2011, you should be able to get the updated numbers from your county office of the Department of Social Services.

Notes

[a] An additional $20.00 income exemption is allowed. In addition, a $46 personal needs allowance is included in the optional supplementation.

[b] Couples residing in these living arrangements are treated as individuals one month after entering an Adult Care Home.

[c] This is a temporary supplement paid until SSI eligibility is determined. This is for people who are currently in a private living arrangement.

[d] If only one member of the couple is blind, payment level is $194.

[e] If only one member of the couple is blind, payment level is $219.

Living Arrangements Definitions

Living in an adult care home - Includes recipients residing in an assisted living residence in which the housing management provides 24-hour scheduled and unscheduled personal care services to two or more residents, either directly or, for scheduled needs, through formal written agreement with licensed home care or hospice agencies. Recipients residing in a special care unit for Alzheimer's in an adult care home are eligible for a higher payment amount. Recipients residing in their own home may be eligible for some of these personal care services.

Scope of Coverage

Optional state supplement provided to all aged, blind, and disabled persons living in adult care homes. Children under age 18 are not eligible for optional supplementation.

No income is deemed to the spouse at home.

Federal SSI regulations apply.
