SD Career Centers - Employer Services

Employers in South Dakota can use Career Centers for a variety of services:

Information: Career Centers provide employers with information about labor law issues, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Workers' Compensation laws and affirmative action laws, OSHA regulations, and Unemployment Insurance requirements. Your Career Center representative can also provide information on the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) and the Welfare-to-Work Tax Credit (WtWTC).

Training, On-the-Job (OJT) Training, Work Experience and other Activities to Prepare Individuals for Employment: Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Training Programs offer individualized training to prepare workers to meet employers' needs.

On-the-Job (OJT) Training Program: The OJT program can pay up to half of new employees' wages while they're learning the job.

Placement Assistance: Career Centers have access to the largest labor pool in the state. They work closely with the state's colleges, universities and technical schools, so employers have access to recent graduates. Employment listings receive free national exposure through Career Centers' affiliation with America's Job Bank.

Employers may also list their job openings electronically with the South Dakota Career Center SDWORKS system (http://www.state.sd.us/applications/LD01DOL/default.asp?navid=98).

Screening: Employers can remain anonymous when they place an order. That way, you won't be besieged by walk-in applicants who aren't qualified for the job. Career Centers will help you select a number of referrals and set up interview appointments. The staff can also help guide you through the interview process so you can ask the questions that will get you the best employees, and avoid the questions that can cause trouble.
