If you were receiving SSI during the time you were being overpaid for SSDI, and your SSI check was lowered as a result of the SSDI overpayment, then the amount that is now being subtracted from your SSDI check because of that overpayment will count as a reduction in your unearned income.
Additionally:
· If you are now receiving SSI, your SSI check may be raised while the previous overpayment is being subtracted from your SSDI check amount.
· If you are applying for SSI eligibility, the amount that is being subtracted from your SSDI check will lower your unearned income when determining your eligibility.
If you were not receiving SSI during the period of SSDI overpayment, or if your SSI check was not lowered because of the SSDI overpayment, then the full amount of your SSDI benefit will be counted when determining your SSI check amount or your SSI eligibility.
When responding to the WorkWORLD question about receiving a reduced SSI check because of an SSDI overpayment:
· Enter YES if you were receiving SSI during the time of your previous overpayment and if your SSI check was lowered as a result of that overpayment.
· Enter NO if you were not receiving a lowered SSI check during the SSDI underpayment.
· If you do not know, refer to the notification letter(s) you received from SSA, or contact your SSA Claims Representative.
