Pregnant women who declare that the gross countable monthly income (after any excluded income but before taxes and deductions are subtracted) for every person in their MassHealth family group is less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible for prenatal coverage. (See MassHealth Income Limits.)
MassHealth Prenatal offers health-care benefits immediately for up to 60 days to pregnant women who appear to be eligible for MassHealth Standard. Coverage begins 10 days before the date a Medical Benefit Request is received at any MassHealth Enrollment Center or received by a Division of Medical Assistance (DMA) outreach worker. Coverage continues for 60 days or until the DMA makes an eligibility determination, whichever is earlier.
Coverage is for ambulatory prenatal care only.
NOTE: On November 1st, 2003, the Massachusetts Department of Medical Assistance (DMA) began charging premiums to some MassHealth Standard beneficiaries. Those who are eligible because they are pregnant or under 6 years old, however, do not have to pay premiums.
