MassHealth provides health-care benefits to its members through the following seven coverage types:
· MassHealth Standard – for families, pregnant women, children, and individuals with disabilities;
· MassHealth Prenatal – short term prenatal care for pregnant women;
· MassHealth CommonHealth – for adults and children with disabilities who are not eligible for MassHealth Standard, and working individuals with disabilities;
· MassHealth Family Assistance – for children, certain employed adults, and persons who are HIV positive who are not eligible for MassHealth Standard or CommonHealth;
· MassHealth Basic – for individuals or members of a couple who receive EAEDC cash assistance, or are long-term unemployed, and who have no (or inadequate) health insurance;
· MassHealth Buy-In – for the long-term or chronically unemployed who have health insurance; and
· MassHealth Limited – for nonqualified aliens and aliens with special status.
The rules for each coverage type are described in the MassHealth member booklet, which is part of the application package.
Applicants are notified of eligibility determination by the Division of Medical Assistance (DMA). The notice indicates whether the applicant can get benefits and when they will begin. DMA provides the most complete coverage type that the individual is qualified to receive.
The MassHealth member booklet is available as a single file in PDF format (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader) at:
