The Food Stamps Program is limited to people who are:
· U.S. citizens or aliens with certain permanent or temporary resident status
· Members of a household who buy and prepare food together; cooking facilities or access to cooking facilities are not required
· "Certified" (found to be eligible) by a local Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) office
· Living in Massachusetts; no durational or fixed residence is required
After the application and all required verifications are completed, household eligibility and benefit level for food stamps is determined.
For most households submitting an initial application, eligibility is based on the household's circumstances for the entire month of application. A household may be ineligible for the month of application, but eligible in the following month(s) because of anticipated changes. The month of ineligibility is, however, considered the first month of the household's certification period.
