The Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) conducts interviews and collects documentation to make a decision about a household's eligibility for Food Stamps.
Households wishing to participate in the Food Stamp Program must submit a Food Stamp Program application containing the applicant's name and address. Information provided on the application form is subject to verification by federal, state, and local officials.
The application may be submitted in person or by mail. The application must be filed with the local welfare office that provides services to the city or town where the household resides. Households consisting only of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applicants or recipients (i.e., pure SSI households) may file their food stamp applications at an SSA office.
