Family-Life Home Payment Amount - Iowa

The Social Security Administration (SSA) determines the amount of the family-life home payment in accordance with instructions from the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS) and makes the payments to the applicant.

For the amount of the maximum family-life home payment, Click on Desk Aid Supp. The Desk Aid for Supplemental Assistance contains the basic payment standards (payment amounts) for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and the various State Supplementary Assistance programs.

NOTE: If you are connected to the Internet you can click on Desk Aid for Supplemental Assistance to see the on-line Desk Aid.

NOTE: You must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed in order to view the on-line version. If you do not have the Reader installed, you can download it free from: www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html.

DHS has instructed SSA to make a payment $20 less than it would make using SSI calculation methods because the Family-Life Home program does not allow the $20 general exclusion. For recipients with enough unearned and/or earned income to use the $20 general exclusion, this method results in the correct payment being made.

For a recipient who has only Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and no other income (and hence no $20 to disregard), an additional $20 payment is necessary so that the total income is equal to the standard allowance. This payment is made separately by DHS.

All checks are issued to the recipient or financial representative. The recipient keeps the personal needs allowance and pays the family that is certified as a family-life home the family payment amount. (Both amounts are listed in the State Supplement Desk Aid.) The recipient is responsible for paying the family-life home.
