Subsidy - SSDI - Extra Supervision & Special Conditions

If you are an SSDI (Title II) beneficiary and, because of your disability, you receive more supervision than other workers doing the same job for the same pay, you may be able to use the SSDI Work Incentive known as a Subsidy. This extra supervision may be supplied by your employer or by an agency that provides job coaching or mentor support (in which case the extra supervision is called "Special Conditions").

A subsidy lowers the amount of your countable earned income. SSA subtracts the value of your subsidy from gross earnings before determining if you are performing Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA). If it is determined that you are performing SGA, you may lose your benefits after you have completed your Trial Work Period (TWP) and Grace Period.

Additional Information

See the topic Subsidy and Special Conditions for additional overview information.

See the topic Subsidies and Special Conditions - Clarification for additional description and discussion of what SSA considers when determining if a subsidy is being made and whether or not special conditions apply.
