Deductions - SNAP (Food Stamps)

In the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly Food Stamp Program), deductions are subtracted from your gross income. The resulting amount is called your net income.

By reducing the amount of net income that is counted when determining whether a household meets the net income test or when calculating the level of benefits for a household, income deductions allow households to have higher incomes and still qualify for benefits. In addition, income deductions allow a household to receive higher benefits. Moreover, deductions can reduce the extent to which benefits are reduced as earnings increase, thereby providing an incentive for households to increase their earnings.

Your household may be eligible for some or all of the following deductions:

· Child Support,

· Dependent Care,

· Earned Income,

· Excess Medical,

· Excess Shelter,

· Homeless Shelter, and

· Standard.
