This topic describes services that are available to individuals with disabilities through the Delaware Department of Labor, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR). DVR is the state's public program that helps people with physical and mental disabilities obtain or retain employment. DVR also operates an Independent Living Program for people with disabilities.
You can apply for vocational rehabilitation services if you have a physical, mental or emotional disability that interferes with your ability to work and live independently and you need vocational rehabilitation services to meet your goals. Your eligibility for services must be established by DVR in no more than 60 days.
Eligible individuals are assigned to work with a trained Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor. You and your counselor will make choices about available services you will need to reach your goals. You will be assisted in deciding an appropriate employment goal through the review of your medical and work history, education, your interests and abilities, and results of assessments. You and your counselor will develop an individualized work plan that lists your responsibilities and the services you may receive.
DVR offers the following services, among others, to support your efforts:
· Vocational Assessment
· Employment Planning
· Skill Training
· Counseling and Guidance
· Job Placement
· Supported Employment Services
· Information and Referral
· Rehabilitation Technology
· Follow-up
Depending on your financial situation, you may have to assist with partial payment of some services. This can be discussed with your assigned DVR Counselor at the time of your application.
