Andy: This profile illustrates how residents of Massachusetts can maximize the impact of Massachusetts' emphasis on transportation options through the use of WorkWORLD planning. It shows how a Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS) could be used by a beneficiary of Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) to become eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), to pay for transportation during training and part-time employment, and to purchase a vehicle for eventual full-time employment.

Annie: This profile shows how significant earnings can affect the Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), Medicaid, Medicare and Section 8 rent of a single Virginian. It also shows how WorkWORLD gives Virginians detailed recommendations about what they should do to ensure that they keep their Medicaid coverage - under a work incentive called 1619b - when they earn enough that their SSI cash benefit is zero, but they earn less than a "threshold" amount.

Frank: This WorkWORLD profile features Frank, a recipient of SSI and Medicaid, who works at a NISH Community Rehabilitation Provider (CRP) worksite under a Javits-Wagner-O'Day (JWOD) contract.
He wants to grow on the job, and has the opportunity to increase his work hours and his hourly wage, which will raise his earned income to an amount that will exceed the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) level under the Social Security Administration's rules.
Frank has received his "Ticket to Work" voucher from SSA.
He can use the voucher to obtain employment services at his NISH CRP.
The CRP where Frank works is an Employment Network (EN) that has been approved by SSA to provide employment assistance to SSI/DI recipients and beneficiaries who use their "Ticket to Work" voucher.
Frank and his employment counselors at the CRP use WorkWORLD to do some careful planning to ensure that both he and the CRP can realize the best outcomes from the evolving situation.
They use WorkWORLD to model alternatives to discover his best net income possibility and to learn how he can maintain his Medicaid coverage.
These results will be shared with significant others who are concerned that Frank will lose his eligibility for SSI benefits and Medicaid if he makes too much money.

Glenda: This WorkWORLD profile features Glenda, a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI), who currently resides with her two young children and her mother in an apartment.
Glenda's mother is retired, and receives a small retirement pension as well as modest Social Security retirement benefits.
The household currently receives Food Stamps due to their low combined income.
Glenda is worried about her family's future, and realizes she needs to achieve a greater level of employment than her current part-time job.
She uses WorkWORLD to see how SSA work incentives and Food Stamps eligibility might help her improve her family's finances by becoming more fully employed and ending her dependence on welfare.

Jack: This profile is about Jack, a person who makes very low wages and lives at home with his mother, who depends on his Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to help her pay household expenses.
The case shows how Jack, with assistance, is ultimately able to have earnings that exceed the Social Security Administration's (SSA's) Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) amount and gain the Ticket to Work outcome - milestone payments for Jack's chosen Employment Network (EN).
Ultimately, Jack is able to earn enough that his SSI cash benefit goes to zero and the EN can begin collecting Ticket to Work outcome payments.
The case demonstrates how people making even the lowest of wages can be assisted to achieve much more.
This profile shows how Community Rehabilitation Providers (CRPs) can include many more people in their plans for gaining Ticket related income than they might have thought possible.

Jacob: This profile illustrates how earnings can affect the Auxiliary Grants and the net income of Virginians who live in licensed assisted living facilities or approved adult foster homes. It dispels the mistaken belief that Auxiliary Grant recipients who go to work would not improve their financial situations. It shows how Jacob, like most recipients of Auxiliary Grants, could improve his financial situations by going to work. The profile also shows that WorkWORLD can compute the relatively high earnings levels at which recipients could lose their Auxiliary Grant eligibility.

Jay: This WorkWORLD profile features Jay, a 15 year-old student.
He is an only-child who lives with his parents and attends school.
He is also a recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) whose cash benefit is reduced from the full Federal Benefit Rate because the Social Security Administration (SSA) deems some of his parents' income as available to him.
Jay is computer literate, so he downloads WorkWORLD.
WorkWORLD shows Jay that he may be able to start putting aside money to start an at-home computer business and have that money reimbursed by an increase in his SSI cash benefit.
He can do this if SSA approves a PASS to help him prepare for his computer business.
Then Jay uses WorkWORLD to explore other changes and options.
What happens when he turns 18?
What happens if he gets a part-time job through his school's work-study program?
What happens if his business dreams come true?
This profile shows how WorkWORLD helps Jay explore and plan for the future.

Jill: This WorkWORLD profile features Jill, who has been working as a cashier at a NISH Community Rehabilitation Provider (CRP) worksite earning $7.00/hr. and working an average of 15 hours a week under a Javits-Wagner-O'Day (JWOD) contract.
However, she wants to grow on the job and pursue new opportunities.
Jill's CRP, Employment Solutions (ES), has opted to be an "Outcome Milestone Payment" Employment Network (EN) under the SSA Ticket program.
ES offers Jill the opportunity to increase her work hours and her hourly wage, which would make her monthly earned income above the limit for Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) under the Social Security Administration's (SSA) current rules.
Jill is concerned about maintaining an SSI cash benefit because she believes she might lose her benefits and Medicaid if her check goes to zero.
The CRP teaches Jill how she can use WorkWORLD to model the affect of different wage levels and hours of work on her eligibility for Medicaid coverage under the 1619b SSI Work Incentive.
The CRP uses WorkWORLD to help insure that Jill really understands what will happen to her check and what she has to do to keep her Medicaid.
All parties have been empowered with knowledge-based decision support made possible by expert use of ESI's WorkWORLD software.

Ron: This WorkWORLD profile features Ron, starting out as a 15 year-old student with a visual impairment who lives with his parents.
This case scenario shows how Ron uses WorkWORLD (with its speech-enabled accessibility features) throughout his education and work career to make the best possible decisions related to his quality of life.
The profile also demonstrates the use of WorkWORLD to set aside deemed income in a PASS to save for future training or equipment purchase.
And it shows how In-Kind Support, when received under the Presumed Maximum Value (PMV) rule, can be set aside in a PASS.
Ron starts using WorkWORLD to look at options for his own situation.
He learns that he may be able to start putting aside money in a Plan to Achieve Self Support (PASS) to save for a personal assistant and other supports he will need to help him get and keep a meaningful job in the future.
Then Ron uses WorkWORLD to explore other changes and options.
What happens when he turns 18?
What happens if he gets a part-time job through his school's work-study program?
How can Ron pay for college tuition?
What happens if his career dreams come true?
This profile shows how WorkWORLD helps Ron explore and plan for the future.
