Veterans Benefits - Health Care - Overview - Oklahoma

To receive health care, veterans generally must be enrolled with the Veterans Administration (VA). You may apply for enrollment at any time through your local ODVA office. You do not have to be enrolled if you:

·              Have a service-connected disability of 50% of more;

·              Want care for a disability, which the military determined was incurred or aggravated in the line of duty, but which VA has not yet rated, during the 12-month period following discharge; or

·              Want care for a service-connected disability only.

Once you apply for enrollment, your application eligibility will be verified. Based on your specific eligibility status, you will be assigned a priority group.

Health Care Benefits include:

·              Nursing Home Care – Nursing care in VA or private nursing homes may be provided for veterans who are not acutely ill and not in need of hospital care.

·              Domiciliary Care – Domiciliary care provides rehabilitative and long-term, health-maintenance care for veterans who require minimal medical care but who do not need the skilled nursing services provided in nursing homes.

·              Outpatient Pharmacy Services – Outpatient pharmacy services are provided either free or for a small co-payment to eligible veterans.

·              Outpatient Dental Treatment – Outpatient dental treatment includes examinations and the full spectrum of diagnostic, surgical, restorative and preventive procedures. A co-payment may be charged.

·              Gulf War, Agent Orange and Ionizing Radiation – Treatment is provided to any Gulf War veteran who has a medical condition that may be the result of Gulf War service.

·              Beneficiary Travel – Veterans may be eligible for payment or reimbursement for travel costs to receive VA medical care.

·              Alcohol and Drug-Dependence Treatment – Veterans eligible for VA medical care may apply for substance abuse treatment.

·              Home Improvements and Structural Alterations – Provides funding for eligible veterans to make home improvements necessary for continuation of treatment or for disability access to the home and essential lavatory and sanitary facilities.

·              Prosthetic and Sensory Aid Services – Provides medically prescribed prosthetic and sensory aids to eligible veterans.

·              Services and Aids for Blind Veterans – Services may be provided at a VA medical or rehabilitation center. If you receive disability compensation you may be eligible to receive VA aids for the blind.

·              Readjustment Counseling – Counseling is provided at community-based Veteran Centers to help veterans resolve psychological war trauma and to help them achieve a successful post-war adjustment to civilian life.
