VA Former SSI/AG Recipients

Members of this group are eligible for Medicaid as a "Protected" Covered Group.

Protected former SSI recipients are those who were eligible for and received either:

·             SSDI and SSI, concurrently; or

·             SSDI and AG, concurrently; or

·             SSDI, SSI, and AG concurrently;

but who became ineligible for SSI or AG due to any reason on or after April, 1, 1977. (The individuals did not have to be receiving Medicaid at that time.)

Former SSI/AG recipients are eligible if:

·             They meet the Medicaid resource limits currently in effect, and their income -- minus all SSA cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) since their SSI or AG was cancelled -- is within the current SSI income limit; or

·             They meet the AG requirements in effect at the time of application or redetermination, including residing in an approved AG home, and their income -- minus the amount of all SSA COLAs received since their SSI or AG was cancelled is within the current AG income limit applicable to a resident of that home.
