In most cases, when determining your income-eligibility for Virginia Medicaid coverage the "countable income" of your Assistance Unit is compared to the Medicaid Income Limits.
NOTE: Gross Income is used in determining eligibility for Medicaid Waivers and Medicaid for ABD individuals in Medical Institutions. Gross Income is also used in the first step of the two-step process for determining income eligibility for Low Income Families with Children (LIFC).
Both the definition of countable income and the specific income limits that are used depend on the Medicaid Covered Group to which you belong.
If you belong to one of the Covered Groups in the Aged, Blind and Disabled (ABD) category, then see Aged, Blind and Disabled Income Exclusions - Medicaid to find out what kinds of income are excluded from Gross and Countable Income.
If you belong to one of the Covered Groups in the Families & Children (F&C) category, see Families and Children Income Exclusions - Medicaid.
