Public housing tenants must provide complete and documented verification for all income, exclusions, and deductions claimed. The local housing authority obtains third party verification of the income, exclusions, and deductions for each household at the time of preliminary determination of eligibility and again at the final determination of eligibility and qualification.
If the local housing authority has reasonable cause to believe that the head or a member of the household is supplying false or incomplete information, the head or the member of the household will be required to authorize the IRS to furnish the local housing authority with a copy of the first page of Form 1040 filed by the head or the member of the household.
Failure of the head or a member of the household to provide complete and documented information regarding income, exclusions, deductions, employment, and/or household composition, including authorization for the local housing authority to verify the information, will be grounds for eviction.
All local housing authorities use a wage and bank match system to verify income. Failure of the head or adult member of the household to provide information necessary for a wage and bank match will be grounds for eviction.
The head and each adult member of a household must provide the local housing authority with his or her social security number. The social security number will be used for verification of income and/or of assets.
