Food Stamps - Work Program Losing and Regaining Eligibility - Massachusetts

Household members who do not comply with Food Stamps Work Program requirements for three months (which do not have to be consecutive) in a three-year period will be ineligible for food stamps the remaining months in the three-year period.

Members, if otherwise eligible, may regain eligibility if they:

·      Work at a job for 80 hours during a 30-day period

·      Work at community service site for a specified number of hours per month determined by dividing the monthly food stamp allotment by the minimum wage

Members who have regained eligibility will remain eligible as long as they:

·      Work at a job 20 hours a week averaged monthly

·      Work at a community service site for a specified number of hours per month determined by dividing the monthly food stamp allotment by the minimum wage

If the individual loses employment for reasons beyond his or her control, eligibility may be maintained for a single three months during the balance of the three-year period without meeting the Food Stamps Work Program requirements.
