Employment services include both prevocational and vocational services. Some services are paid for using only state funds and some use Medicaid funds. People who receive Medicaid-funded vocational services must have previously resided in a Medicaid-certified nursing facility or ICF/MR (Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded), be 16 years of age or older, and be approved for a Home and Community-Based Waiver.
Services available to the individual through the Department of Rehabilitative Services or through a state or local education agency are not funded under HCBW Employment Services.
Prevocational services include a range of activities that are directed at specific goals leading to vocational skill development. Prevocational services consist of two programs, Center-based and Community-based services.
Vocational services are provided through supported employment (job coaching and follow-along services). Supported employment includes on-site training and all other activities initiated by certified agency staff promoting an individual’s capacity to secure and maintain a job in an integrated work setting.
