Developmental Disabilities Services - Prevocational Services - Oklahoma

Prevocational services consist of two programs, Center-based and Community-based services:

Center-based services (sheltered workshops) assist workers in achieving their vocational potential through a controlled work environment, providing worker reimbursement in accordance with individual production and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Services include assessment, training, and transitional programming leading to community job placement services. Workshops are operated under the direction of nonprofit agencies that often subcontract with businesses to provide work for the sheltered employees.

Community-based services are provided in sites typically used by others in the community that promotes individual independence and inclusion within the community. Approved activities include unpaid work experience in community settings; job sampling (paid situational assessment), training through generic entities such as trade schools, Vo-Techs, Junior Colleges, and other community groups.
