DE Veteran's Benefits - State Employment Preference

State employment preference points are one of many Delaware veterans benefits for which the Delaware Commission of Veterans Affairs (DCVA) can provide assistance and information to you.

Preference for employment with the state of Delaware is given to veterans of the armed forces of the U.S. who served during wartime. Preference is limited to original entrance and is not given for promotion or retention in case of reduction in force.

Preference is granted only in the form of credits added to earned ratings in examinations, with disabled veterans receiving no more than 10 points and other veterans no more than 5 points. All veterans are required to obtain a passing examination mark before preference credits are applied.

Preference points for veterans who are deceased may be claimed by his or her unmarried widow or widower providing he or she achieves a passing examination grade.
