DE School-to-Work Transition Services

Graphic suggesting transition from school, showing stylized book, yellow writing pad, clock, and black numbers on red background.'Beginning at least by age 14 or 8th grade, transition planning is a part of the process for establishing for all students receiving special education services their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

The IEP team always now includes the student as a part of the transition planning team. Also, any agency representative who may provide and/or pay for transition services becomes a critical member of the planning team.

The areas of employment, post-secondary education or training, community participation and independent living are all to be considered in the transition planning and IEP process.

This means that School-to-Work possibilities must always, by law, be explored during the IEP process.
