Average Current Earnings - Figuring

You can find your Average Current Earnings (ACE) amount in your original SSDI award letter or change notice. If you cannot locate the number, you should contact your SSA Claims Representative to find out your ACE amount. In the meantime, you may use an estimate of 150% of your Primary Insurance Amount.

NOTE: Using an estimate will not result in an accurate computation of your benefit amount, but it will allow you to proceed and find out if there are other questions that you need to ask of your SSA Claims Representative. Be sure to select the Estimate button to remind you that you are using an estimate.

For your information, the Average Current Earnings (ACE) amount is figured as the highest of the following:

·        The average monthly earnings used to figure your Social Security disability benefit.

·        Your average monthly earnings from any work you did (including self-employment) covered by Social Security during the five highest years in a row after 1950.

·        Your average monthly earnings from work or a business during the year you became disabled or in the highest year of earnings you had during the five-year period just before you became disabled. (Divide the year's total earnings by 12 to get the average current earnings.)

All earnings covered by Social Security, including amounts above the maximum taxable by Social Security, can be used when figuring average current earnings.
