The amount of resources you entered for this situation exceeds the maximum resource limits permitted for SSI eligibility. When your resources exceed the resource limits, you are not eligible for SSI benefits. Refer to the text result and double-check the amount you entered, and note your allowable limit and the amount by which your resources exceed the limit.
NOTE: Your total resources include those resources that may be deemed to you from others. If you are under age 18, you may be subject to parental deeming. If you are married, spousal deeming may apply.
You should make sure that what you have reported as resources are, in fact, countable resources as defined by SSA. Not everything a person has is a resource and not all resources count. See the topic "SSI Resources - Definition" for help in determining what your resources are. Remember that not all assets are considered resources, and some resources are excluded.
NOTE: If you find that your resources have been incorrectly reported to SSA, you should contact your SSA Claims Representative immediately to report the discrepancy.
Note that if you use some of your resources to help prepare for and obtain a job, or start a business–and therefore become more self-supporting–and include those resources in an approved Plan for Achieving Self-Sufficiency (PASS), those resources will be excluded from your countable resources. For example, if you own more than one vehicle and can show how using the second vehicle could help you meet the goals of your PASS you could exclude that particular resource when determining eligibility for SSI. Or, if you have a savings account, applying some or all of that particular resource to a PASS would allow you exclude the portion in your PASS when determining eligibility for SSI. This may permit you to gain your SSI eligibility while you prepare for a new or better occupational goal.
NOTE: Your PASS must end when you achieve your goal.
If you have countable resources that could be included in an approved PASS, and those resources have a value that equals or exceeds that amount over the limit shown in the text result, you can see what happens to your benefits and income by following the procedure below.
1. Create a New Situation by clicking the New Situation icon on the Toolbar or choosing Situation, New from the Main Menu.
2. If you have only entered one situation, the new situation will be based on it. Otherwise, choose the column containing this recommendation as the column on which to base the new situation. (The new column will contain the same answers as the chosen column until you make changes.)
3. Go to the top of the new column and enter a situation label such as "Use Resource PASS".
4. Scroll down to the Work Incentive Information section and enter YES to the question about PASS reducing countable resources.
5. Enter, in the next question, the total dollar value of the resources you are including in a PASS.
6. Finally, review the numeric and graph outputs for changes to your net income and benefits, and the text outputs for additional recommendations specific to your actual situation.
