Alert: Spouse Medicaid Lost (State Threshold)

Your spouse’s annualized gross earned income is greater than the "Threshold" amount for your State.

See: State 1619(b) Thresholds - Overview for an explanation of the threshold concept.

See: State 1619(b) Threshold Amounts for a list of the threshold amounts.

SSA will calculate an individualized threshold if your spouse has one or more of the following:

·     Medical expenses greater than the average per capita Medicaid expenditure cost in your State.

·     Impairment Related Work Expenses (IRWE)

·     Blind Work Expenses (BWE)

·     A Plan to Achieve Self-Support (PASS)

·     Publicly funded attendant or personal care (not funded by Medicaid – since that would be reflected in the first item)

For more information see Individualized 1619(b) Threshold Amounts.

Even if your spouse’s gross earnings are greater than the State or Individualized threshold, your spouse may be able to retain Medicaid coverage if your State has special programs, such as a Medicaid Buy-In, for that purpose. Check with the State agency that administers Medicaid to find out if your spouse is eligible for such a program.
